AFCON 2023: NWABALI YET TO KNOW EXTENT OF INJURY AS OSIMHEN COMES OUT NEGATIVE AFTER DOPING TEST

Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has said status of his injury is yet to be made officially public by the doctors after he suffered injury in Super Eagles 2-0 win against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Nwabali who was unable to finish the match after subbed off in the 80th minute for Francis Uzoho, said he still feels pains following the collision with Georges- Kelvin N’Koudou.

‘’Maybe the doctor would tell, but I’m still feeling pains. Ypu know when injury is new, you always feel pains.’’ Nwabali said;

Also, Nigeria coach Santos Peseiro has said the Super Eagles medical team is yet to assess the extent of goalkeeper Nwabali’s injury.

The battle with Nigeria arch-rivals Cameroon was a tensed until Ademola Lookman put the Super Eagles in the lead in the 36th minute, after Victor Osimhen pressure on the opponent defense paid off. Cameroonian marker Jean – Charles Castelletto failed to cope with the energy of the Napoli striker before Osimhen pass found Lookman for the first goal.

The Atalanta striker, Lookman doubled the lead to seal a win for the three- time African Champions, who will face Angola in the quarter finals match at the Felix Houphouet- Boigny Stadium, Ivory Coast.

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen the reigning African Footballer of the Year who was selected by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, for random drug test after his sterling outing against Cameroon in Saturday’s Round of 16 match at the ongoing AFCON2023 has been cleared of Anti-doping along side Moses Simon and William Troost- Ekong.

Osimhen  who was the driving force in the 2-0 win for the Super Eagles, was said to have been tested after the match against Cameroon at the group stage of the tournament. .
