AUSTRALIAN OPEN: RADUCANU GRAND SLAM RETURN WIN AGAINST ROGERS IN MELBOURNE

British Emma Raducanu marked her return to Grand Slam with a victory over Shelby Rogers at the Australian Open, 6-3, 6-2 to progress to the second round.

The victory at the Melbourne Park is coming as an excitement after her layoff for 12 months following hand and ankle surgery in April. Many had feared her return could be slow but her convincing fashion display, obviously is an indication of her quest to compete for the title.

The former US Open Champion observably looked confident at the start of the match impressively taking control of the drive of the first game. She stylishly forced a good exchange of tennis with her opponent using baseline and effortlessly changing directions off both forehand and backhand without much stress.

Her performance earned her first set secured and freely she opened her shoulders for the second set. At the start of the set she played flamboyantly, maintaining her momentum until the end. Although Rogers worked hard to keep a pace on Raducanu’s drive, the British was undisputable too hot to handle as her drop of shots and serve was reliable in the decisive moments to clinch the second set.

Raducanu was excited with the win to the admiration of fans and crowd at the Melbourne Park as she signed autographs marking a successive return to the grand slam after 12 months. Significantly the win is important for 2021 US Open Champion in her quest to win the Australian Open,

‘’I think being my first slam match back, it is definitely a little bit extra sweet.’’ Raducanu said.
