WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS- RICHARDS ANCHOR AMERICA TO GOLD IN 4 X 100M SET NEW CHAMPIONSHIP RECORD

The US recorded a new championship record at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in 4 x 100m in the race anchored by Sha-Carri Richardson in Budapest.

The new world champion in women’s 100m was up for the task, knowing the Jamaican women are also a big challenge in the event- with Richardson winning the 100m and Shericka Jackson the 200m- this face- off between the two nations was forecast to be a fiery as they come.

And the stage was set with the American anchor leg Richardson lined up against Jackson.

The empire shot it-loud, the race began with the American being passed the baton with a narrow lead over Jamaican. The speed was exciting and the transition in baton was brilliant as the new 100m world champion crossed the line first. She screamed loudly and continued her run straight into the arms of the US men’s relay team.

The US men’s team had just won the 100m relay with their gold medal just minutes earlier, the women’s team draped themselves in their national flag to celebrate in front of their fans.

It was the second women’s sprint gold medal of the Games- and the second for Richardson who has undoubtedly become one of the brightest shining stars of the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

In the thrilling final the American quartet of Tamari Davis, Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas and Richardson women’s 100m champion crossed the line in 41.03s. To achieve the fastest time ever at a World Championships on Saturday 26 August, 2023 in Budapest.

The Jamaican finished second in the narrow win by the American to keep up the standard in both county’s rating claiming the silver in 41.21s, with the British quartet Asha Philip, Imani Lansiquot, Bianca Williams and Daryll Neita winning bronze in 41.97.

After the race jubilant Sha Carri said, ‘’ We all had a common goal and that was to come out here and win,’’

Richardson had earlier said, ‘’It feels amazing along with these ladies to do what it is that we’ve been training to do,’’ emphasising no matter what may be put out there, we know what we need to do, celebrating Richards said.

The race was obviously a tough race and the Jamaican team didn’t disappoint, having shown a class of high performer, expectedly should be happy and pleased with what they got despite not winning the gold.
