WORLD RECORD HOLDER TOBI AMUSAN SET FOR SEMI- FINALS WOMEN’S 100M HURDLES SHOWDOWN TONIGHT

World Champion Tobi Amusan eased pass the finish line with a time of 12.48s to commence her title defence at the World Athletics Championships.

Despite the slow start the world record holder in 100m hurdles increased her speed and momentum to catch up to lead in fifth heat ahead of Megan Tapper who came second in 12.51s and Michelle Jenneke of Australia, third, in 12.71s.

Others that competed with Nigeria sprint- star in the heat 5 are Ebony Morrison, Maayke Tjin-a-lim, Nathalia Christofi and Nika Glojnaric.

Tobi, who was cleared by the Athletics Integrity Unit few hours to the start of the competition to participate, showed non- difficult sign as initially feared she might be affected psychologically prior to the start of the heat.

Amusan will be up for the semi-final 7.45pm Nigeria time on Wednesday in her quest to repeat her sterling performance at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA, finishing first with a 12.12s world record to smash Kendra Harrison world record of 12.20s set in 2016.

It will be recall she was alleged suspended by Athletics Integrity Unit but came out clean for a statement,

‘’A panel of Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today[Thursday] found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation [ADRV] of three Whereabouts Failures with a 12-month period.’’

Amusan who is one of Nigeria’s medal hopeful at the championships is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion with Games’’ record of 12.30s. She has also defended her Diamond League title coupled with Nigeria Championships record and African record.

Meanwhile, Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships medalist Ese Brume, finished fourth in the women’s long Jump to narrowly miss he medals podium, Sunday.
