WALDRUM KEEN TO CONTRACT RENEWAL AS SUPER FALCONS COACH AHEAD OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS

Nigeria’s women’s national team coach Randy Waldrum is keen to remain the coach of the Super Falcons after the team’s spectacular performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The nine- time African Champions coach contract expires after the World Cup and the Nigeria Football Federation is yet to make a statement on extension of his contract despite the impressive performance by the Nigeria women’s team.

Although, NFF has applauded their performance following the coach comment and the Nigeria public praises on tactical discipline and exhibiting Nigeria’s brand of ‘flowing flair football’ coupled with resilience. The anticipatory extension of the deal with the American tactician looks possible.

‘’ They’ve been fantastic the whole tournament.. We’ve not lost a game realistically’’. Randy Waldrum said at the post-match conference.

The Super Falcons who are on quest for the Olympic Games qualification ticket played against the world best and the Nigerian coach is confident the team will get better.

‘’We’ve played against the Olympic gold medallists [Canada], the European champions and we kept a clean sheet in both of those games… We didn’t lose.’’

Waldrum was alleged to have been embroiled in a bitter fight with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, in the build up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup but his performance and initial apology before the kick off of the tournament could set a new beginning for his contract renewal.

‘’I am proud of my team. I want to stay with this team and continue working towards the Olympics next year. But that is not a matter for me to decide.’’  The 66- year old said after the match.

The West African football giants were eliminated in round of 16 but caught the eye with their sterling display and superb talent.

Super Falcons performance against the European Champions England losing out in the penalty shootout 4-2 on Monday. Obviously is an indication the team will develop better with the right environment, respect on proper structure, endorsement and payment of allowances as at when due.

Also, the team’s resilience displayed- bound talents in Nigeria and the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, expected cordial working relationships with the coaches. Many pundits believe Super Falcons are sure to improve on their 40th World ranking and continue with their remarkable brand of football artistry.
