The Prince Victor Uwakwe Lawn Tennis Tournament in conjunction with Enugu Sports Club Tennis Association, kicked off on Tuesday in Enugu.

This year’s tournament, which is the sixth edition, is being organised by the Enugu State Tennis Association, taking place at the State Sports Club.

The ongoing tournament is featuring under 15 and 21 boys and girls categories and will end on 12th August 2023

The sponsor of the tennis tournament Mr. Uwakwe in his speech said the purpose of the tournament is to harness the budding talents from the grassroots and greater exposure to the quality engagements.

The sponsor of the tennis tournament was represented by Mr. Lawrence Molokwu who emphasised that discipline and capability of the players will be tested.

The tournament offers opportunities for the young players to build a rich regimen of experience which serve as a pedestal for greater attainment in the future.

‘’It is my belief that focus and discipline achieved in sports rubs off in other parts of your life, to give you a  more robust trajectory in the ladder of success.

‘’Winning the prize is wonderful but it is more important understanding the lessons learnt in the journey all the way.

The sponsor also said ‘’ The tournament has been evolving over years and this year, we are glad to have our sister states join us, we want to engage and build with them as we are brothers and sisters.

‘’We hope they have a memorable experience with us. We hope to always improve and enrich the quality of the tournament to a better and worthy experience,’’ he said.

He expressed appreciation for the team-organisers of the tournament thanking them for coming and wished for a wonderful experience.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Enugu Sports Club, Sir Victor Atuonwu welcomed everyone and reiterated the club’s commitment to sports development in the state. He noted that the club has sports facilities and others to ensure that sports, especially tennis strive in the state.
