Coco Gauff claimed her fourth career title to beat Maria Sakkari in straight sets to win the WTA 500 Citi Open in Washington DC.

Gauff overcame her four previous losing streak in five matches against the World No. 9 coming from down a break in the second set but powered back and won four games in a row to seal the win.

Gauff, who is gearing up for the Canadian Open and the US Open later this month is delighted with her victory working with a full team considering her inclusion of new coach Pere Riba and Brad Gilbert.

The 19 year-old said, ‘’It’s our first tournament as a full team.’’ Adding ‘’I’m glad that we were able to make this result.’’

The American teenager has displayed super form ahead of the US Open winning impressive results dropping just a set all week, an improvement performance which credit obviously goes to the new coach.

With this her second title of the season after winning the Auckland Open she will be a top contender for the Canadian Open title.

Defeating the World No. 9 6-2 6-3 in this biggest career win was unique as it is her first career win at a WTA 500- Level tournament.

Although, she has had three 250 level wins to her name and Sunday’s victory makes her the first teenager to win four titles since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009. Adding to her bold statement at French Open finishing as the runner up in 2022.
