AFCON QUALIFIER: OSIMHEN EDGING CLOSER TO TOP SCORER AS SUPER EAGLES BEAT LEONE STARS

Three time African Champions Nigeria has secured a ticket to African Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cote’d Voire after a 3-2 victory over Sierra Leone at the Samuel Karnyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scored a brace to take his goal tally to 17 for the Super Eagles in the match Nigeria’s coach Jose Santos Peseiro has praised the performance of his team.

Speaking after the match the Portuguese tactician described the match as a very hard match which his players fought till the final whistle. Nigeria created several opportunities in the first half but scored two goals.

‘’We deserved to win but I think it was a difficult and very good match but our team is the best in the group. We did a fantastic job against a good team. I’m happy with my players, congratulations to them.’’ Peseiro said according to Punch.

Meanwhile, Serie A top scorer of the season Victor Osimhen has climbed up in Super Eagles ‘all-time top scorers list with 17 goals, surpassing the likes of Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Samson Siasia.

The 24 year-old now trails behind Rashidi Yakini- 37, Segun Odegbami-23, Yakubu Ayegbeni-21, Ikechukwu Uche-19 and Obafemi Martins-18. Victor Osimhen currently occupies the 7 position in the top list.
