2023 FIFA U-20 WORLD CU: FLYING EAGLES ON A WINNING START AS NFF PRAISES BOSSO LED BOYS
Nigeria Flying Eagles started their 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup campaign on a winning note, defeating debutants Dominican Republic 2-1 at the Estadio Malvisnas Mendoza on Sunday.
Flying Eagles had approached the early minutes of the first half cautiously with midfielder Daniel Daga exhibiting his skills in midfield to contain control in the battle. But it didn’t take long before Edison Azcona gave the North Americans the lead in the 23 minute.

Unlucky Benjamin Frederick had conceded the penalty before the spot kick from Edison. Although, the young Nigerian was brilliant in showing at centre-back.
The Laddan Bosso led Eagles effort paid off with an equalizer courtesy of an own goal by Guillermo de Pena.
In the second half the Flying Eagles tactical play, obviously was better than the previous half with talented winger Jude Sunday constantly pressuring their opponent. His good performance in the match came for more recognition as he netted the winning goal 20 minutes from time.
The Flying Eagles went ahead to sustain the lead till the final whistle. With the win they occupy the second position in Group B behind Italy who defeated Brazil 3-2 in their opening fixture.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation has praised the Flying Eagles on their winning start against the Dominican Republic,
‘’We are happy with the three points though we wanted the boys to win by higher margin.’ NFF Gneral Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi told thenff.com. He further stated that goals advantage do matter along the line in a competition such as this.
He added, ‘’ The next two matches will be much tougher and I expect the Flying Eagles to also show stemer stuff.’’
The Flying Eagles will battle Italy in their next game Wednesday and a win could see the Eagles in the next stage of the competition.
