INDIAN WELLS: BRITISH NORRIE SUCCUMBED TO SUPERIOR POWER OF TIAFOE CRASH OUT IN QUARTER FINALS

British Norrie Cameron ended his eight match unbeaten streak to Frances Tiafoe 6-4 6-4 for the American to advance to the semi-final of the Indian Wells.

The British number one who won the event in 2021 was outshined that he looked ordinary making 28 unforced erros. At the start of the match after eventual delay due to rain Tiafoe played confidently and delivered a crosscourt winner to break Norrie for a 4-3 lead in the opening set.

Tiafoe continued to display good tennis with Norrie who was playing in his third Indian Wells struggling to find his fit causing further unforced errors coupled with the pressure from the spectators supporting the home boy. The 25 year old eventually took the first set.

In the second set Norrie, 27, saw the confident American take double break lead, but he whittled down  to one when he double faulted at 5-3. He managed to serve out the match on his next opportunity, unleashing a 139 mph ace to set up a match point. But unfortunately Norrie’s forehand sailed long to end the affair.

Obviously, a far result for Norrie who had won the Rio de Janeiro title last month and has a record win of 21-4 win –loss record for the year.

Meanwhile Frances Tiafoe will play Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final, he reached the semi- final of the US Open last year but this is the first time he has reached the last four of a Masters 1000 event.
