Enyimba’s quest for ninth Nigeria Professional League, NPFL, got a boost with top striker Emek Obioma netting in a brace against Shooting Stars of Ibadan in a 2-0 win on Wednesday in Aba.

The former Abia Warriors striker who joined the Peoples Elephant from the local rivals at the start of the season sets the Aba giants on course for the title. Obioma currently with seven goals from eight matches lead the top scorers spot in the NPFL.

The eight time Nigerian champion and two CAF Champions titles, Enyimba no doubt will be counting on their number top striker as they face Bendel Insurance of Benin who are yet undefeated in the current NPFL season. The match comes up this weekend.

Meanwhile, Akwa United Manager, Ayodeji Ayeni has applauded his player’s performance against Gombe United in a match The Promise Keepers won 1-0 on Thursday. Uche Collin’s eight minute goal from a header after a superb effort from James Ajako’s brilliant cross was enough for their fourth win of the season.

“I really want to commend my players for today’s victory. Their determination and never die spirit gave us this victory.” Ayeni said, in a post-match briefing.

Gombe United with creatively minded midfield in tactical play fought hard to get back into the game but the solid defense of coach Ayeni led the side was decent to hold on to the lead till the final whistle.Ayeni expressed happiness over his team, having scored the vital goal and were able to defend till the end of the game.

Although, he admitted his team was out for a high score but they are excited with the result, “where we can’t score, we don’t have to concede.” He added.
