SALIECI MYLES AND CALISHA TAYLOR NAMED NATIONAL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Former Jamaican high school track and field standouts Salieci Myles and Calisha Taylor were named National Athletes of the Week for outstanding performance in the last weekend’s Indoor meets.
Myles stellar performance earned her 60m Hurdles event at the Commodore Classic at Vanderbilt University in an NAIA leading 8.38 seconds. She also ran a personal best of 7.59 over 60m, bettering the 8. 39 she ran at the preliminaries.
While Taylor, the reigning NJCAA 400m champion was in outstanding form at the Texas Tech’s Corky Classic in Lubbock, clocking 1:21.65 minutes. Her performance puts her third best- ever on the all -time NJCAA Indoor list.
She had earlier set a previous best 1:23.88 on the same track last February and then with a split of 54.25 seconds on the New Mexico JC’s 4 x 400 team, which ran 3:42.39 minutes. The performance earned the team (New Mexico JC) fifth-fastest programme in NJCAA indoor history.
Myles of William Carey University started his career at Rusea’s High School after previously attending Edwin Allen High while Calisha Taylor of New Mexico Junior College was a former Holmwood Technical athlete.
