Africa reigning champion Senegal bounced back from their defeat to Netherlands to secure a 3-1 victory over host Qatar in the Group A match played Friday.

The West African soccer giant who had a significant start at the ongoing FIFA World Cup despite defeat in their first match considering their performance showed intent of qualification with goals from Boulaye Dia in the 41 minute and Famara Diedhiou in 48 minute.

The early stages of the first half had seen the Teranga Lions starting the match with absolute momentum and control responding to their opening- night defeat to the Orange with positive play, obviously knowing a win is important!

The host showing character of a team set to avoid defeat in 33 minute had penalty appeals ignored after Akram Afif boundled over Ismaila Sarr. But in the 40 minute Boulaye Dia rifled Senegal in front after Boualem Khoukhi’s defensive error.

At the start of the second half Famara Diedhou who has been brilliant in the tournament so far made it 2-0 with a header from a corner.

With increased crowd support thanks to the host spectators, Qatar responded with momentum of attacking play with Muntari delight to watch in positive offensive and progressive play, obviously the pressure registered Qatar’s first shot on target in the 62 minute but World Best Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy saves from Almoez Ali effort and 67 minute again Mendy was called to duty makes a wonder save from Ismael Mohammed.

The increasing pressure paid off from the host and Muntari Mohammed pulled a goal back with Qatar’s first-ever World Cup goal in 78 minute.

Senegal condemned the host to elimination with a brilliant goal from Ahmadou Dieng in the 84 minute which leaves the host with two defeats, a draw later on Friday and less than a week into the World Cup if Netherlands and Ecuador draw in the other Group A game.
