Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, Olympic champion, has been nominated for the World Athlete of The Year Award including four other male athletes.

Eliud who broke his own record in marathon 2 hours, 1 minute and 09 seconds will be up against other world beaters such Jakob Ingebrigsten, Noah Lyles, Soufiane El Bakkadi and Pole Vault champion Mondo Duplantis. The list announced Wednesday by the World Athletics ahead of the event and final winner on December 5th will witness the best among high profile names.

Lyles, bidding to be the first U.S man to win the award since decathlete Aston Eaton in 2015, broke Michael Johnson’s American record in the 200m in winning the world title in the event in 19, 31 seconds in Eugene, Oregon in July. He is the third fastest man in history behind Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake.

Moroccan Steeplechaser Soufiane El Bakkadi who was undefeated in 2022, including World and Diamond League titles is among top for World Athlete of The Year. Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the world outdoor 500m champion who had fantastic returns time and ran the world fastest mile in 21 years is obviously another delight on the final five list.

Also Pole Vault champion and record holder Mondo Duplantis, the Louisiana- raised Swede, who upped his pole vault world record three times in 2022 and swept the world indoor and outdoor and Diamond League titles in sterling finish at the event could be the winner.

But the world will wait to see who will be crowned world best in an event that will be held early in December.
