DIAMOND LEAGUE: WOMEN’S 100m HURDLES WORLD CHAMPION AMUSAN FINISHES SECOND IN LAUSANNE

The world 100m hurdles record holder Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan won a silver medal at the ongoing Diamond League in Lausanne.

Tobi, who broke the world record at this year’s World Athletics Championship in Oregon, United States to win the gold medal, was outshone with slight resistance from 2020 Tokyo Olympics winner, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.

Camacho-Quinn had a good start with a good jump at the first hurdle and speedily continued with the same pace to beat the Nigerian, arriving 12.34s (-0.9). Tobi, who won the Commonwealth Games gold in Birmingham earlier in August finished in a time of 12.45s. While America’s Tia Jones ran a personal best of 12.47s to finish third.

With the annual season Diamond League still on, the return time 12.45s by the world champion qualifies her to the Zurich meet. The elite athletics event competitions is a series comprising 14 of best invitational athletics meetings.

Meanwhile, Tobi’s aura of the second position finish in Switzerland could be attributed to her series of events after winning the World Athletics Championship in Oregon and the Commonwealth Games gold in Birmigham, which some pundit presume her second finish could be improved upon in the next meet
