The Falconets sprang from a goal down to win against Canada in the final group match at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Sot in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

The coach Christopher Danjuma led team were up for nine points after winning their two group previous games against France and South Korea. But had an early shock as the Canadian took the lead in 2nd minute of the first half. The goal was a pep up for the Canadian ladies who had lost their previous group game against France and South Korea.

However, Falconets responded with an equalizer through Esther Onyenedize who converted a penalty after a handball by a Canadian player to level the score 1-1 in the 24th minute after the Canadian goal by Kaila Lillyanna Novak.

Esther Onyenezide who scored a spectacular goal against South Korea from a long range outside the box was on hand again to set the Falconet high in the 32nd minute as she scored a second goal against Canada via spot kick after a Nigeria player was badly tackled in the box.

The Falconets took their brilliant play for half time break despite the early shock from the Canadian ladies.

On resumption of the second half the Falconets made early moves to the opponent half with Esther Onyenezide continuing her intelligent aggressive play in the attack with supply of the ball through good passes from the Nigerian midfield players.

The Falconet pressuring effort paid off again later in the extra minute of the second half as Chioma Oliseh scored the third goal for Nigeria in 90 + 1 minute for 9 points and to take Group lead to next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, with the impressive performance of Esther Onyenedize she is being tipped for one of the top scorer ratings in the competition as the Falconets begin preparation for the quarter- final game.
