COMMONWEALTH GAMES: FAVOUR OFILI QUALIFIES FOR WOMEN’S 200m FINAL

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili continued her impressive run at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with a return time of 22.66 seconds on Friday to place first in the women’s semi-final race.

The Nigeria national record holder was the second fastest in the three semi-finals en route to the final, her time is next to Olympic Champions, Jamaica’s Elaine Thomson-Herah who sparkled on her race of 22.63 seconds.

The former Nigeria U20 champion and record holder over the 200m prior to the Commonwealth Games ran 10.93 seconds in the 100m at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, LA in April this year and became the first female NCAA athlete to run sub 22s and sub 11s.

The 19 year -old quick run places her as first Nigeria female athlete to run under 22 seconds. She could pull a surprise considering her reserved energy having gaped her competitors to slow before winning the semi-final ahead of Jamaica’s Natalliah Whyte, who came second in 23.09 and Gina Bass of the Gambia finishing impressively with a time of 23.10 seconds to place third.
