COMMONWEALTH GAMES: NIGERIA TABLE TENNIS TEAM IN PERFECT START BEATS SOUTH AFRICA

Nigeria’s table tennis team had a perfect start at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Friday.

In the women’s singles event veteran ping ponger, Edem Offiong won her event against Cumbertatch of St Vincent and The Grenadines 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-3. Fellow Nigerian compatriot Tosin Oribamise outshined Depesche from St Vincent and The Grenadines 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.

The sparkled Nigeria team continued the impressive performance of ladies as Aruna Quadri qualified to the next round of the competition as he beat South Africa’s Jones Shoun 11-6, 11-3, 12-10. Another South African fell to the Nigerian team in almost contest in the first set as Olajide Omotayo defeated Nathoo. C.O of SA in three sets 11-9, 11-6, 11-6.

In the mixed doubles for women, the combine team of Fatimo Bello and Edem Offiong won in a three set of 11-6, 11-2, 11-5 to beat their opponent from St Vincent and The Grenadines, Velox abd Cumberbatch. Also the duo of Omeh Amadi and Olajide won their first group game against South Africa’s Cogil Theo and Nathoo 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
