EURO WOMEN CHAMPIONSHIP: WEMBLEY FINAL IT’S ENGLAND AGAINST GERMANY

Germany produced a sparkled night in the Women’s Euro Championship defeating France in the semi-final to set up a clash with the England team at Wembley on Sunday.

England’s rising profile in European women’s football is already gaining global attention which means their quest for the first title could be a dream actualized in the next few days. The eight- time European champions, Germany had started well with clear intent upfront against the French women. It didn’t take long for Alexandra Popp to prove their dream to be at Wembley, she netted a brace.

Alexandra Popp had volleyed in the opener and headed in a clinical second –half winner, obviously she was delighted on the pitch in the semi-final.

Despite a goal down the French responded quickly with great control of the midfield and beauty coming from the flanks. Just four minutes later at almost the twilight of the first half, Diani showed good skills outside the area as she fired a powerful effort towards the bottom corner, the ball struck the post and bounced in off Frohms for an equalizer for the quick response French team.

But Germany went on to win the match with the Wolfsburg striker Popp second half leap and downward header which restored Germany’s lead. In spite of French women’s effort for a requaliser German team held on to their lead to win the match.

Alexadra Popp’s effort has put her as joint top scorer in the tournament with Beth Mead on route to the final.

The final is expected to have an attendance of a large crowd which could outnumber the largest record of 79,115 in European championship. The final between Germany and England obviously is going to rekindle the rivalry between both nations and arguably will be one of the greatest in the history of football in England. The dream final which England could well attract television audience that might surpass the current record of 11.7m set during the 2019 World Cup,

Meanwhile, the free scoring England team had bound Sweden 4-0 in the first semi-final and could as well be ready to do the same against Germany. But the Germans are technically sound, typical of German teams. Above, it is a reminder that Sarina Wiegman’s team are ready in their quest for first European title.
