TOBI AMUSAN WINS GOLD SETS WOMEN’S 100m HURDLES WORLD RECORD

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan was in blistering form to become first Nigeria athlete to win a Word Athletics Championship gold as she powered over the line to win the women’s 100m hurdles in Oregon.

The Amusan who broke the world record twice in the semi-final with a 12.12seconds return time before claiming the new status as the world fastest woman in 100m hurdles. On route to the final, she had set a new African record during the qualification stage.

With her sterling performance pushing the jaw-dropping right she beats Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico to third place in 12.23seconds and Jamaica’s Britany Anderson to second position in 12.23seconds.

The Nigeria previous race at the qualification round obviously showed she has got more and the tilt is to smash the previous best mark held by Keni Harrison of the United States in 2016. This she has proved in a stunning fashion breezing in 12.12seconds in the semi-final.

The 100m hurdles world queen Tobi Amusan had patiently waited with the right concentration not to beat the umpire’s gun. She got to a scorching start and quick-smartly into her stride after the first hurdle. At this distance, it was clear, she was building her lead powering ahead Olympic champion Anderson was behind and her pace closing Camacho-Quinn.

In few seconds she powered over the line at the Hayward Field in 12.06seconds for the gold, silver and bronze to Camacho-Quinn and Anderson respectively.

After the astonishing race she was excited with her performance but was not really expecting the world record at these championship. She sees the world record as a bonus. I knew I had it in me but I could not believe it when I saw it on the screen after the semis.” Tobi said.

With the win she walks away with a cheque of $100,000 for winning the Gold in women’s 100m hurdles final at the event in Eugene, Oregon, where she smashed her semi-final world record.
