Nigeria’s Super Falcons have arrived Casablanca, Morocco to rekindle rivalry between both nations in their quarter-final fixture against the Cameroon women’s team at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
The highly anticipated encounter is bill for the Stade Mohamed V on Thursday.


Nigeria had thrashed Burundi 4-0 in their final Group C match at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat on Sunday to seal a place in the quarter-final. With the Super Falcons having won the previous game against Botswana, the Coach Randy Waldrum led side is expected to come out smoking on Thursday when they battle the Indomitable Lioness.

The ninth-time African champions in their match against Burundi ladies broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Rasheedat Ajibade was brought down in the box after the Burundi’s goalkeeper Jeanine Irakoze challenge resulted to a penalty.

Rasheedat took the penalty to put Nigeria on the lead in the 25th minute. The Swallows in an attempt to push the Nigeria team to their box, saw the Super Falcons fight back with a quick response three minutes later to add another with the Burundi’s ladies conceding a goal.

In-form Ajibade Rasheedat had provided assist for Peace Efih to put the ball in the net for 2-0 lead. She re-launched similar effort providing another assist for Uchenna Kanu to put Nigeria ahead 3-0 before the half time break.

On resumption of the second half the Nigeria team started early dominating play, Uchenna Kanu later scored a brace in the match to give Super Falcons 4-0 lead against the Swallows.
South Africa top Group C with maximum nine points after winning their final Group game to book a place in the quarter- final. Ellen Desiree led South Africa side did beat Botswana 1-0.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons are lodged at the Novotel Hotel in Mohammedia for the Thursday encounter. The four semi-finalist will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at 2023 Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
