WIMBLEDON: TATJANA MARIA OUTSHONE OSTANPENKO REACHES QAUTER FINAL
German Tatjana Maria came from a set down to win at Wimbledon to reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal beating Jelena Ostapenko.
The 34 year-old who has been described to be in fantastic form joins former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep with just two of top 15 seeds remain in the women’s draw and Halep the only past winner still in the race for the title.
Maria grappled the win over Ostanpenko 5-7 7-5 7-5 to set up encounter with follow German Julie Niemejer, who is making her All England Club debut. She saved two match points in the second set against the 12th seeded opponent.
With the win against the 22 year old her quest for the title is on course hoping to maintain her road of upset just the way she did against Maria Sakkari in the third round.
