WIMBLEDON: TUNISIA ONS JABEUR THROUGH TO FOURTH ROUND
French teenager Daina Parry succumbed to the superior power of Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the Wimbledon open after 6-2 6-3 defeat.
The match played on the Centre Court saw Jabeur who recently won the Berlin Open dominate play in the early stage of the first set up 5-0. Parry having had a good run at the French Open defeating defending champion Barbora Kreijcikova, obviously tried to play herself back into the match but Jabeur sustained the momentum to overrun the 19 year old.
Parry despite the defeat showed flashes of good tennis with quick return of back hand, commanding certain level of the tempo in the match.
For Jabeur rapping up the match in one hour and eight minutes is an indication that her intention at the grass court is to go top of the WTA ranking after going second in ranking, immediately after being crown Bett 1 Open champion. She will face the winner between 2018 champion Angelina Kerber against Elise Mertens.
Also through to the fourth round is 12th seed Jelena Ostapenko who came from a set down to defeat Irina –Camela Begu 3-6 6-1 6-1. Ostapenko will battle Tatjana Maria who outshined Maria Sakkari in two set of 6-3 7-5. This is Maria Tatjana first time reaching the fourth round in a major after defeating the German tennis star.
