WIKE CONGRATULATES RIVERS UNITED FOR EMERGING NPFL CHAMPIONS
Rivers United has emerged Champions of the Nigeria Professional League 2021/2022 season following 2-1 defeat of Plateau United Saturday.
In a statement issued by Special Assistant on Media, Kelivin Ebiri, on Sunday, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike congratulated the management and players of the club for the triumph.
“I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to the coaching staff and particularly the capable players of the Rivers United for the valuable efforts they to emerge the winner of the 2021/2022 NPFL.
He further said, “The government and the good people of Rivers State are very proud of the team’s exploits following their dogged performances and resilience display throughout the 2021/2022 season.
He also highlighted that it is worthy to note that Rivers United has brought so much joy and happiness to football fans and supporters all over the country. “This victory, no doubt, marks a mojor milestone in Rivers State football’s history.” Governor, Wike added.
With virtue of the club emerging the champions of the NPFL 2021/2022 season, Rivers United will represent Nigeria at the Confederation of African Football, {CAF} Champions League next year.
Meanwhile, rock bottom MFM Lagos quest to escape relegation got a hard knock following 2-1 defeat in Akure in a Southwest derby against Sunshine Stars. Azeez Ajagbe netted the first goal in the 11th minute and Osayi Kingdom scored the second goal.
MFM got a consolation goal in the 75th minute, but was not good enough to set them off from the relegation, with the current status having 36 points MFM could go to the relegation.
