EMMANUEL MICHAEL BRACE QUALIFIES GOLDEN EAGLETS TO WAFU B U17 FINAL
Nigeria Golden Eaglets continued their impressive form at the WAFU B U17 tournament in Ghana coming from a goal down to win 3-1 against Ivory Coast.
A brace from Emmanuel Michael through a free kick saw the Eaglets respond at half an hour in the game to equalise 1-1. The Ivorians had scored an early goal through Yan Diomandi in the second minute through the spot kick following clumsy tackle on Diomandi inside the box.
Emmanuel added another in 43 minute to give the coach Nduka Ugbade led Golden Eaglets a 2-1 lead.
On resumption of play in the second half, it confirmed the superiority of Nigeria players with typical ‘Naija’ free flow of attractive football artistry. The hunt for more goals was obvious from the young lads from Nigeria,. Adullahi Abubakar sealed the win for the Golden Eaglets in the 60 minute scoring a beautiful goal to admiration of Ghanian and Nigerian fans at the stadium.
In the 86 minute after good exchange of passes, set up for Precious Williams with a clear chance but his effort could not make additional difference with a goal as the ball went inches off target.
With the win against Ivory Coast, Nigeria confirms qualification for 2023 U17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Emmanuel Michael who has netted three goals through free-kick was named Man of the Match award and a strong contender for Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Nigeria will face the winner between Ghana and Burkina Faso in the final, Friday, 24th June 2022.
