WAFU U-17 TOURNAMENT: UGBADE LED GOLDEN EAGLETS QUALIFY TO SEMI- FINAL
The Golden Eaglets sparkled to victory with a second match win at the ongoing WAFU B U-17 tournament in Ghana, after defeating Togo 3-1 in Group A, Tuesday at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Coach Nduka Ugbade, first captain player to lift the age grade trophy in China 1985 and tactician of the Nigeria side was happy with goals from Kevwe Oyede, Precious Williams and substitute Fortune Aleki.
Iyede had opened scoring in the 11 minute, Precious Williams added another in the 24 minute for a two goal lead.
Eaglets who had brushed aside host country, Ghana 4-2 in the opening group game, obviously, was slightly nervous after the two goals lead it ushered to the second half in the early minutes. Togo pulled one back with Ahouankpo scoring in the 15 minute for a 2-1 score.
But coach Ugbade boys restored two goals advantage with Aleki effort that resulted to goal for a 3-1 win. The five time world champion will now await the outcome of Ghana against Togo game to know the team that joins them in the semi-final.
The two teams that advance to the final of this year’s WAFU B regional tournament, will fly the West Africa ‘pride-flag’ at the 2023 U-17 AFCON in Algeria.
