FLYING EAGLES QUALIFY TO SEMI FINAL IN WAFU B U20 CHAMPIONSHIP

The Nigeria U 20 team have qualified to the semi-final at the ongoing WAFU B U20 Championship in Niamey.

The coach Ladan Bosso led Flying Eagles progressed to the semi-final despite being held 2-2 draw by the Junior Etalons of Burkina Faso on Wednesday at the Stade General Seyni Koutche. Nigeria had gone ahead in the first half through Ibrahim Muhammad with the first goal.

But the Burkina Faso side responded with an equaliser through the penalty spot. With the Junior Etalons under pressure from the Flying Eagles in the second half they conceded a penalty and Yahaya Ibrahim converted the spot penalty.

At the twilight of the match the Junior Etalons found the back of the net for an equaliser 2-2. The Burkina Faso team will need to avoid a defeat against West Africa neighbours Ghana this weekend if its dream ambition is to progress up to the final.

Nigeria defeated the Black Satellites 2-0 in their group opener, but the Ghana team will need an outright victory to stay in contention.

The two finalist at WAFU B Championship will fly the West Africa Region honour at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Egypt from February/March.
