GHANA VS NIGERIA: GHANA SET TO NAME SQUAD AS MIX REACTION TRAIL ONAZI RETURN TO SUPER EAGLES

Ghana Black Stars coach Otto Addo is set to release his final squad for the anticipating explosive decisive 2022 World Cup playoff against the Super Eagles of Nigeria. A member of Black Stars management committee Karime Gruzah has revealed.

The game scheduled for 25 March at the Cape Coast Stadium and the second leg on the 29 March at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja has already seen the interim coach of the Nigerian team Austin Eguaveon release his squad last week.

Speculations have trailed social media reports on refusal of some Black Stars players not to honour invitation for the encounter. But Karim Gruzah has said that the previously turn down our invitations has changed as Otto Addo has spoken to most of the players and they are ready to be part of the squad.

“We have to thank God that Otto Addo and his men have successfully spoken to some players who had previously turned down our invitations. We just have to pray and support them.”

Meanwhile, the inclusion of Ogenyi Onazi, 29, has seen mix reactions from some Ex-Nigeria international. While most pundits strongly feel the addition of the 2013 AFCON- winning squad in South Africa will bring experience to cover loopholes in the Eagles midfield, former Nigeria international Etim Esin feels different.

“Onazi has no place in that team,” he further said, according to the Vanguard Sports “I don’t think he is required in the present set up. We don’t really need Onazi as far as I am concerned. But former Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okplala said, only Eguaveon knows what he wants from Onazi.

“It depends on what Eguavoen wants. I am not there. He knows what he wants from Onazi.

Onazi was in the squad that went to the 2914 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles under late Stephen Keshi. He presently ply his trade with a second division side Al-Adalah in Saudi Arabia. The veteran midfielder has made 11 appearances for his new club and last played for Nigeria in September 2018 in a 3-0 win over Seychelles during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
