The Wild Beast of Central African Republic recorded a major upset with a shock defeat of the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, Thursday, with a late minute goal by Karl Namnganda. The snatched three points from the home team has sent roars by the Super Eagles fans demanding the sack of the national team coach Gernot Rohr by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The visitors who were technically and tactically better in their approach to the game, defended gallantly with the Super Eagles struggling to create goal bound opportunities despite dominating possession. The Gernot Rohr led team, obviously lacked the cohesion, urgency and tactical build up to a winning pattern and the team resulted in playing retrogressive passes in the better part of the second half.

The sluggish Eagles paid dearly for their lack of shot at goal as the visitors took advantage with a counter attack, a miscalculation between William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun left Karl Namnganda to fire a blasting shot past goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

Though, the Super Eagles were missing some of his key players, the likes of Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Oghenekaro Etebo, the rating of their replacements and other top-flights professional in Europe are good enough to face the Wild Beast, obviously is not an excuse for the team for the loss. As the players can stand side by side with other top players in Europe.

Despite the Super Eagles top of Group C with six points after three games their wins has been considered lucky by the fans who are demanding for the sack of the coach. And in objective assessment, it is obvious the problem of the Super Eagles is coaching with the abysmal performance against the Central African Republic.

A Facebook user with the name Ekundayo Sodunke, said “Gernort Rohr must go enough is enough.” Monitored by Pivotsports. Also, according to the Punch, a Facebook user with the name Ekpenyong Emmanuel said, “It is high time NFF sack Rohr. After five years of being in charge of a team, Rohr can’t build a team with a play pattern. #Sack Rohr Now! (sic)”

A Twitter fan with the handle @chaichowski also said, “Rohr shouldn’t be the coach managing the Super Eagles in 2021, he does not have any persona to match this squad, pay him and sack him, get a young vibrant coach, please (sic).” According to the Punch.

The Super Eagles will play a return leg in the double- header FIFA World Cup qualifying Group C match, Thursday. It is expected the team must maintain lead in the group as a defeat will see a drop from its six points after three games. With the Central African Republic now with four points the same as Cape Verde who also beat Liberia away from home. The Super Eagles must go for a win!
