THOMPSON-HERAH QUEST TO BEAT WORLD RECORD CONTINUES WITH WIN IN PARIS DIAMOND LEAGUE

Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah continued her quest to break the world record with a victory in the women’s 100m at the Paris Diamond League Saturday with a clocked time 10.72sec, a new meet record.

The 33 year old world record was threatened at the Eugene event prior to the Paris Diamond League with a second fastest time in history of 10.54sec. She also returned a time of 10.64sec in Lausanne, indicating her desire to beat Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world record of 10.49sec.

Tokyo Olympic Games gold medallist did see off compatriot Shericka Jackson to 10.97sec, Jackson won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. But fellow Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce pulled out of the Paris event due to fatigue, having ran the third fastest ever mark of 10.60sec in Lausanne Thursday before the Saturday’s Paris Diamond League.

While Elaine Thomson-Herah, 29, is still flourishing with the aura of Tokyo Olympic triumphs winning three golds in 100m, 200m and 4x 100m relay, the world will await the future outcome of her ambition to outshine the 33 year old world record in the coming months.
