US OPEN: DJOKOVIC AIMS TO COMPLETE CALENDAR SLAM DESPITE MISSING GOLDEN SLAM

Novak Djokovic return to the US Open after his disqualification last year in the fourth round for hitting a ball towards a line judge. The 2018 US Open champion will continue his quest to become the first man since Rod Laver all four majors win in same year in 1969.

The world No.1 who defeated Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open final in 2018 is also aiming to win 21 Grand Slam titles which if achieved, he will move one ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic who was a surprise exit from the Tokyo Olympics losing to Alexander Zverev of Germany in the semifinal to miss out of the dream for a Golden Slam ‘Crown’, had expressed scare over the US Open after his third place defeat by Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 in the bronze medal match, citing multiple and shoulder injury.

But the Serb is now motivated ahead of the US Open by the return of the crowd in the stadium and the historic opportunities in New York

“It’s probably the most entertaining tennis court that we have. The crowd will be back in the stadium. I can’t wait. Honestly I’m very motivated to play my best tennis. But I have to hit one ball at a time, try to be in the moment.” Djokovic said, declaring his ambition to obviously complete the Calendar Slam.

The top-ranked Djokovic who lost his cool at the Tokyo Olympic Games Tennis men’s singles third place match and abused his racket several times in the battle for the bronze medal against Pablo Carreno Busta. Now strongly feels he is better after the evident in his on court behaviour and pressure of exhaustion-mentally and physically at the Olympics which led to his losing the third place without a medal at the Games.

He admitted he took a little bit of additional time off after the Olympics, which kept him out of the Cincinnati against his previous planned participation at the tournament. Again, he also concurred that top seeds are the top favourites to go far and go deep in the tournament but that he is equal to the tasks considering his huge experience and positive feelings to make a difference at the tournament.

Meanwhile, in the women category hot form Ashliegh Barty and 2018 US Open champion Naomi Osaka  who defeated Serena Williams after Williams had accused the umpire of being ‘thief’ in an outburst some of the most dramatic scenes at the Grand Slam are set to battle for the ladies title at the Flushing Meadow.
