USA RYAN CROUSER SET NEW SHOT PUT OLYMPIC RECORD AS NIGERIA’S ENEKWECHI PLACE 12 IN FINAL

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi the reigning African champion failed to win a medal in the final of the men’s shot put event at the ongoing 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Enekwechi is a three time national champion who won the African Games gold in Rabat, Morocco in 2019 with a throw of 21.28 failed to click to expectations of some pundits as he only managed a throw 19.74 to place 12th on Thursday.

American Ryan Crouser smashed the Olympic record in the event with a throw of 23.30, he erased his previous record of 22.52 achieved at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. His USA compatriot, Joe Kovacs, won the silver medal with a throw of 22.65, while New Zealand’s Tomas Walsh won the Bronze with a season best 22.47.

Meanwhile, Chukwuebuka, 28, has satirically expressed his disbelief having been provided with just one Jersey at the Tokyo Olympics by the Nigeria sporting authorities, which he had to wash before the final.

Enekwechi won the 2018 Commonwealth Games Silver medal and he is a two time African champion.
