JAMACIA’S ELAINE THOMPSON- HERAH WINS TOKYO WOMENS 100M CROWN WITH AN OLYMPIC RECORD

Jamacia’s Elaine Thompson-Herah was in prime form as she successfully defended her Olympic 100m women crown on Saturday, storming to victory with a new Olympic Record and second fastest time in history. Thompson-Herah crossed the line at the Tokyo’s Olympic Stadium in 10.61sec, beating two-time champion Shelly –Ann Fraser-Pryce to silver in 10.74sec and Shericka Jackson bronze in 10.76sec.

With the world clue to their electronic and digital platform waiting patiently for the spectacular moment at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, the pre-race hype, obviously focused on Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who had the best time this year prior to the Olympic. She also deserve the focused attention as she was bidding to become the oldest sprinter to win an Olympic title and the first woman to win three individual titles in track and field.

This was the atmosphere, empty stadium, but the aura of the audience viewing itched for the best taste of the fastest women at Olympic.

The race started with the 34- year old Shelly –Ann Fraser-Pryce having a good start racing, but failed to up her head on time after the two foot take-off, in spite of that, 2016 Rio gold medallist led until around 60m. Thompson –Herah realising the urgency raised her pace, drew level, there on she pulled clear like the empires trigger and powered to the finishing line pointing and gesticulating in delight at the electronic board displaying her winning time of 10.61sec.

“I am really excited to come back and retain my title. My chest hurts, I am so happy.” Thompson –Herah said.

With her winning mark, she becomes the second fastest time in history, only Giffith-Joyner, remains the world record holder with a best time 10.49sec, has ever run faster. Giffith-Joyner won gold at the1988 Olympic.
