TUNISIAN TENNIS STAR JABEUR AIMS SEMI-FINAL BEATS VENUS WILLIAMS IN WIMBLEDON

Tunisian tennis star Ons Jabeur has beaten American Venus Williams to qualify to the next round of the tournament and set her ambition to a semi-final place.

The 26 year-old who won the Birmingham WTA tournament earlier this month will battle Spain’s Garbine Muguruza, the 2017 Wimbledon champion for a place in the round of 16.

With a tight opening set which lasted for 52 minutes, Jabeur showed flashes of what is to come in the second set. She drove her ambition with a first set game in the second set, Jabeur did break point with a lovely cross court forehand and secured the break when Williams struggled with her forehand wide.

Delighted with her victory 7-5, 6-0 against Venus Williams five time Wimbledon champion in the second round, the first Arabic woman to win a WTA tournament said after the match,

“Honestly I was so nervous first time I play a legend and not everyone was with me today but it was a great game,” said Jabeur.

She also expressed her happiness with the surface grass as she enjoyed playing on the beautiful grass.

“My game slices, goes well with the grass surface I enjoyed it here I can dive any time Iike. Hoefully I can continue the journey.

Meanwhile, Jabeur is not hiding her respect for her next opponent in the third round, Garbina Muguruza,

“Garbina Muguruza is a tough player and plays amazing on grass.

And in setting her ambition for a semi-final place Ons Jabeur said, “I did a quarterfinal at Australian Open (2020) and I want to do better than that.”

In a reverse situation, Venus’ sister Serena Williams limped off Cente Court in tears Tuesday after she got injured in her right leg in the first set of her match. Though, she is expected to return in the doubles with Nick Kyrgios in the tournament.
