CZECH BARBORA BATTLE PAVLYUCHENKOVA IN ROLAND GARROS FINAL
Czech Barbora Kejcikova was incredible as she won the semi-final of the French Open beating Maria Sarkari 7-5 5-49-7 in a match that lasted over three hours.
The 25 year-old who was magnificent in the classic semi-final and had earlier thought she had won the game before the umpire had a line call wrongly overruled, but she later went on to clinched the trophy in her fifth match point.
Barbosa ranked 33rd was excited with her classic performance admitting her semi-final performance was a demonstration of how she want to play.
“I always wanted to play a match like this,” the former doubles world number one, said.
‘When I was younger and I was playing juniors, I always wanted to play such a challenging match where we both had chances and were playing so well- and only one can win.
“Even if I lost today I would be very proud of myself because I was fighting. That is the most important thing, to fight, in here and in our own life.”
The delighted Czech tennis star will battle Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final of the 2021 French Open final. The Russian 31st seed has been impressive in the tournament, got it late to reach her first Grand Slam, beating Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek 7-5 6-3.
After the game in Paris clay, Pavlyunhenkova admitted her scale of performance as surprising, although it has been a tough journey to the final.
“I don’t know what to think because I’m so tired but so happy. It is emotional.” Russian, Pavlyuchenkova, said.
Meanwhile, her Czech opponent Krejcikova has dedicated her victory to her mentor Jana Novona,
“I appreciate all my heroes and I thank Jana from upstairs,” Said Krejcikova.
‘She looked after me and I really miss her and I want to thank her. Because of her I’m here and it is really important to say it out loud.”
The anticipated classic Roland Garros final will obviously be a showcase of experience and determination as both players will play at the Paris clay in high spirit.
