TSITSIPAS, ZVEREV SECURE SEMI-FINAL PLACE IN FRENCH OPEN

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas has secured a place in the last four at the 2021 Roland Garros defeating Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 in a highly entertaining game but without spectators due to Covid-19 curfew in Paris.

Stefanos who had an early impression of his determination to win the game won the first set in just 31 minutes. Now, heading to the second set with the lead, the game continued with Medvedev pressured by Tsitsipas pace of responses, he was behind 3-1. But the Russian regained composure and levelled the proceedings at 3-3. However, Medvedev was unable to take advantage of his sudden return to the set- point chances in the 10^th game.

It went to a tie-break and Tsitsipas unleashed his power- momentum to take the first point and moved ahead, leading 3-0. In an effort to cool off, Medvedev changed his clothes and after that he impressed with a break in the fifth game but the Greek had a come- back to lead 5-4.  

The contest became a lot more challenging from both players but Tsitsipas, obviously, a better player in the match won the battle to advance to the semi-final.  The Greek who was happy with the win said,

“I was playing against one of the best guys on the tour, so I had to keep the intensity up and elevate my game during the entire match,”

“I felt that I was playing really well and not giving him a lot of space. I think that my performance was close to being one of my best this week, I would say, I’m really happy with that.

The World No. 5 revealed that the clay in Paris brings back memories, “Being here on clay in Paris brings back good memories, I’m happy to keep on repeating that and trying to go further day by day.”

 Meanwhile, Zverev cruised into the semi-final with a three straight set of 6-4 6-1 6-1 demolishing Davidovich Fokina to reach his third Grand Slam semi-final and first at the French Open.

“It’s very nice in the semi-final, but just being here doesn’t satisfy me” Zrerev said.

“I know I’m playing pretty okay, and I hope I can continue playing the same way, maybe even better in the semi-finals and then we’ll see in two days’ time what it holds for me.

“Obviously, the Grand Slams are the tournaments that we want to win the most. Before, maybe in the last few years, I was putting too much pressure on myself.” Zverev admitting on his experience.

He further said that he is now a bit more patient which he is learning how to deal with the situation a little bit better, “I’m a bit calmer at the tournaments, but the end goal hasn’t changed.”

Meanwhile, Zverev feels winning the tournament will be the ultimate dream-come true as his quest for his first French Open crown continues in the semi-final.
