SUPER EAGLES SET FOR DOUBLEHEADER FRIENDLY AGAINST CAMEROON IN AUSTRIA

Three time African champion Nigeria will tackle arch-rivals the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in an international friendly match in a doubleheader at the Weiner Neustadt Stadium in Austria, Friday.

The coach Gernot Rohr tutor Super Eagles already has a swell camp of twenty players with captain Ahmed Musa already in camp in Austria. Although preparation for the game has been affected with the withdrawal of six players, some of the players including Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Porto’s Zaidu Sanusi, Sami Ajayi and Fulhams Ola Aina will not  be available for selection..

The tune up match is ahead of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in September, Super Eagles coach Rohr believes the two games against Cameroon is a good litmus test to assess the players in a real test match. With the players in camp including new players like Terem Moffi, Super Eagles will play to improve on their pride of place in African soccer and the FIFA ranking.

“This test match, you see many players are not here, and it’s opportunity for to try new players, to see new faces and have the chance to show something Rohr told the Super Eagles media page.

The German who has coaching experience in France with French club Bordeaux, strongly agrees the two test matches will keep players in the right shape of mind for the World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde. He further said that it is always important to prepare well for the World Cup, especially the qualifiers.

With the presence of captain Ahmed Musa in the team for the friendly on Friday, it is a boost for the team. Some other players that are in camp for the international friendly with Indomitable Lions are goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, John Noble, William Troost-Ekong, Alex Iwobi, Sheu Abdulahi and Oghenekaro Etebo.

“The training session was okay, the condition was good. The grass was good and the weather was not too hot. I think we can prepare well here in Austria.” Rohr told NFF media.

Nigeria made a debut appearance at the World Cup in USA 94 and last won the African Cup of Nations in 2013 under late Stephen Keshi.
