OYINLOMO, IMEH WIN CBN SENIOR TENNIS OPEN AS APEX BANK GOVERNOR ADVISE YOUTHS TO SHUN VIOLENCE
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Open ended Saturday with the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele promising the continuous sponsorship of the tournament. The defending champions of the Senior men and women single’s in the tournament, Imeh Joseph and Oyinlomo Quadri respectively, retain their titles in the final of the 43rd edition of the championship which took place at the Package B of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The CBN Governor represented by Ag, Director, Corporate Communications, Mr Osita Nwanisola who advised youths to shun violence and make good use of the opportunities the apex bank has engaged them with, especially the sporting activities at the Junior, Senior and the Wheelchair categories.
With a set down defending champion Imeh Joseph came from behind to beat hard-fighting Uche Oparaji, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 to emerge the champion back -to -back. He was presented a giant trophy and the N1 Million star prize.
In the women’s singles, American-based Marylove Edwards was beauty to watch but the superior performance of Onyinlomo Quadri saw the battle of teenagers end in two set win. The 2019 and 2020 champion Quadri won 6-1,6-0 to retain her title and win the trophy for keeps. She also got the N1 Million star prize.
In the doubles Toyin Asogba paired the women singles champion Quadri to beat the pair of Adeusi Jesutoyosi 6-1, 6-0. While in the men’s double the duo of Musa Mohammed and Adehi Oche forced the pair Michael Chima and bamu Matthew to retire at 5-0 in the first set.
Alex Adewale beat Wasiu Yusuf in two set in the wheelchair category 6-3, 7-5 to win the men’s singles title, while Khafayat Omisore who was a set up fell to the superior power of Nwaozuzu Chituru, Chituru came from a set down to win 2-6, 6-4, 7-6.
The CBN Tennis Open tournament is an annual event sponsored by the apex Bank.
