FIFA: SEPP BLATTER BAN FOR ADDITIONAL SIX YEARS

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been banned for additional six years and eight months by the world football governing body (FIFA) and a fine of CHF 1 million (£780,000). He has been found to have gone against the FIFA Code of ethics which has warranted the additional ban.

Also to serve a ban is former FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke who is ban from football related activities for having been found guilty of a string of charges while in office.

In a FIFA statement “The investigation into Blatter and Valcke covered various charges, in particular concerning bonus payments in relation to FIFA competitions that were paid to top management officials, various amendments and extensions of employment contracts, as well as reimbursement by FIFA of private legal costs in the case of Mr Valkie.”

Blatter, 85, is currently serving a ban for various corruption charges which is to expire in October 2021, while Jerome Valcke, 60, is banned until October 2025. But with the additional ban of six years, Blatter’s ban will not expire until 2028 and Jerome will serve his additional ban when the previous ban expires.

Sepp Blatter was FIFA president from 1998 to 2015.
