AUSTRALIAN OPEN: MEDVEDEV BEATS TSITSIPAS TO MEET DJOKOVIC IN FINAL

Russian Danil Medvedev has secured a final game against Serbian Novak Djokovic after defeating Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4 6-2 7-5 at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

The inform Russian, 25, showed class of beautiful tennis as he aims to become Russia’s first male major champion since 2005.  He took the first break point of the match for a 4-3 lead and maintained consistency with Tsitsipas causing errors

Medvedev continued his dominance in the game with quick play taking his fourth set point with an ace down the middle. He added power to his effort engaging his backhand to pressure Tsitsipas which he was rewarded with another break in the third game of the second set.

Stefanos who was obviously under pressure, showed signs of frustration smashing an open water bottle into the court. Although, he continued to get the support of his fans at the stand and set his sight to overturn the game to his favour but Medvedev stellar performance ended the Greek ambition to play in his maiden Grand Slam Final.

Meanwhile, Medvedev who is up against top seed Djokovic in the final will battle to stop the Serb on Sunday in the 33 year-old bid for a record –extending ninth men’s title at the Australian Open. Medvedev has won three of their four meetings but Djokovic for sure will work to see if he can better his record at the Melbourne Park.
