2020 FIFA AWARDS: ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI AND LUCY BRONZE WIN TOP AWARDS
Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and Manchester City’s Lucy Bronze has won top awards at the 2020 FIFA Awards held via FIFA’s virtual ceremony in Zurich. Both players won the top awards following their spectacular performance in the FIFA calendar year.
Lucy Bronze became the first female fullback to win FIFA Women’s Player 2020, while Paolo Madini and Roberto Carlos are other players that have been crown winners in the past.
In the other categories of awards, Tottenham Hotspur Son Heung-min won the FIFA Puskas Award with the best goal scored against Burnley his 12 uninterrupted touches after he collected possession 94 yards from goal en route to scoring, it has doubled the previous record.
Bayern Muich’s goalkeeper, Manuel Nuer won the Men’s Goalkeeper of The Year Award for his best year for Bayern Munich. Manuel who has been at his best for his club was amazing to watch last season, which he has continued in the current season, he was considered the best Shot-stopper in the world. The Women’s Goalkeeper was won by Lyon legend, Sarah Bouhaddi for her stellar career performance. She is 34 year-old
Liverpool’s manager Jeugan Klopp was named the Men’s Coach of The Year. The triumph of his team winning the Champions League and the English Premier League coupled with his conduct on and off the field earned him the Men’s Coach Award and Sarina Wiegman won the Women’s Coach Award.
With this year’s award which has seen Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski join top male award winners, it is also note for history as Lewandoski became the first-ever German-based player to claim FIFA’s top male individual prize in what was the 30th year it was handed out.
Again, Lewandowski changed the rhythm of the award as 11 successive years that Spain based players has emerged as top male individual FIFA award winners was snatched by the Polish striker as Barcelona’s Lionel Messi could not reclaim his crown.
