CAF PRESIDENT AHMAD AHMAD BAN FOR FIVE YEARS BY FIFA

President of Confederation of African Football, CAF, Ahmad Ahmad has been handed a five-year ban by Football governing body, FIFA for abuse of office and financial misconduct.

The FIFA Independent Ethics Committee handed the five year ban from football related activities in addition Ahmad Ahmad has been fine of 200,000 Swiss Franc. He was found of abuse of office, misappropriation of funds and offering of gifts and other benefits, 

Fifa’s Independent Ethics Committee has handed the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, a five-year ban from all football-related activities. 

CAF President who is also a FIFA Vice President, had disclosed his intention to run a second term in office as CAF President with election due next year.

“The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee has found Ahmad Ahmad, the President of Confederation of African Football (CAF) and ion) FIFA Vice- President, guilty of having breached art.15 (Duty of loyalty), art. 20 (Offering and accepting gifts or other benefits) and art. 25 (Abuse of position) of the 2020 edition of FIFA Code of Ethics, as well as art. 28 (Misappropriation of funds) of the 2018 edition, the statement read.  

According to Goal,com, Ahmad Ahmad conduct has been in investigation from 2017 to 2019 concerning various CAF related governance issues,

“The investigation into Mr Ahmad’s conduct in position as CAF President during the period from 2017 to 2019 concerned various CAF-related governance issues, including the organisation and financing of an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca, his involvement in CAF’s dealings with sports equipment company Tactical Steel and other activities.

“In its decision, following an extensive hearing the adjudicatory chamber ruled that, based on information gathered by the investigatory chamber, Mr Ahmad had breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF President, pursuant to the FIFA Code of  Ethics.

The Madagascan, CAF President was also fund to have breached arts 15, 20 and 25 of current edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics and he is now illegible to contest re-election as CAF President. He was reported to have been arrested in France in June but was released without being charged. He was elected as Vice in March, 2017.

The Confederation of African Football, election is scheduled to hold in March 2021.
