DOMINIC THIEM DEFEATS NADAL AT WORLD ATP FINALS

World No. 2 Raphael Nadal has lost at the ongoing Nitto ATP Finals in London, losing to reigning US Open Champion Dominic Thiem 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4). Nadal who lost two tie- breaks in the match feels happy and better with his play.

Although, losing to Dominic Thiem who has already qualified to the semi-final is a slight set back, he still has the opportunity to qualify to the semi-final with the outcome of his next match against Stefanos Tstisipas at the Q 2 Arena in London. The both have 1-1in Group London 2020.

Na todal who is fighting to win his first Nitto ATP Finals title, praised Thiem but maintained head up that his performance is on track,

“Just well done to Dominic, I’m happy with the way I played,” Nadal said.

The Spaniard who had 5/2 lead in the first tie-break but failed to convert it to winning the match, added,

“I think my chances are bigger to have a very good result now than [they were] five days ago because the level of tennis–even if I lost today – for me is much higher.”

Nadal spotted his weak stage in the game which Dominic Thiem dominated with superior power play.

“[It was] a great match of tennis decided [by] a few small details. Just well done to him. He played I think am amazing match, and I played well, too,”

Meanwhile, Nadal still has the chance to qualify with the next game against Stefanos Tstisipas and keep his quest for his first Nitto ATP Finals title alive.

“I think I am much more confident now with the level of tennis that I am playing than couple of days ago. So I just have the chance to keep going, and that’s what I’m going to do.” Nadal, reigning French Open champion said.
