WRESTLING: NIGERIA READY FOR 2020 WORLD WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BELGRADE

Nigeria will participate at the 2020 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. This follows the approval from Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare.

This will be Team Nigeria’s first participation at a major championship since February due to coronavirus pandemic that did halt sporting activities in the global community.

The Nigerian team will be led by the three time World Championship medalist and Commonwealth Champion Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg), she will be joined by Commonwealth Gold medalist, Blessing Oborududu (68kg) and Aminat Adeniyi (62kg).

The trio of the Nigerian team are experience with Odenayo Adekuoroye gunning for his 4th World Championship medal. She won silver medal in 2017 and two bronze medal in 2015 and 2019. Blessing Oborududu is 10-time African Champion, while 27 year-old Aminat Adeniyi is 5-time African Champion and would hope for his first global event medal at the championship.

The tournament will hold from 12th-20th December 2020 and the Nigeria team will be led by female national team coach Purity Akuh.
