BARTOMEU, BARCELONA PRESIDENT RESIGNES

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has resigned with the entire board stepping down from position after several months of criticism in the wake of poor string of results, especially the Barcelona 8-2 humiliation in Champions League by Bayern Munich.

Bartomeu who has been criticised by some senior players in the Barcelona team, especially Argentine international Lionel Messi for not respecting their agreement in principle over clause in contract for his initial proposed exit from the club during the summer, which with the president rejection for him to leave he stayed to avoid the matter going to court.

Although, his tenure is due to expire next summer, the continued scrutiny on the Barcelona president and the call for vote of no confidence to get him out of sit which gathered a vote of 20,687 was becoming an intense pressure for his resignation.

The club now face a new chapter with the resignation of the president the club, if to renew Lionel Messi’s contract. Also, the fans will hope a solution to their declining standard in games and poor results will be remedied.
