GERMAN CHAMPION JULIA GOERGES RETIRES FROM TENNIS- “Thank you for everything”

German, Julia Goerges has announced her retirement from Tennis after 15 years of professional career finishing 479-337 singles record across all levels

The 31 year-old native of Bad Oldesloe, Germany represented Germany at 2012 London Olympic Games and reached the round of 16. Julia appeared in 48 Grand Slam with her compiled record of 54- 49 win-loss, she reached the semi-final at Wimbledon 2018.

In an emotional letter to Tennis (world), published on her official website. The former World No.10 and ranked high as No.9 as at 20th August 2018.

“Dear Tennis, I am writing to you, because I am ready to say ‘Goodbye’. You have given me so many different types of emotions throughout our journey. I am very thankful for everything you have shown and taught me. I learnt how to deal with the toughest losses. But also enjoy the most amazing wins of my career, to fight back many times when I was struggling with you and through it all we never lost sight of our dreams.” Goerges said.

Goerges who has remained a member of the German Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) team since 2018, further added,

“I always knew how I would feel when it is time to say goodbye to you, and that moment has arrived. I am already to close the tennis chapter of my life and open a new one, which I am really excited about. Thank you for everything you have given me. You will stay forever in my heart.”

This year she was ranked 45 and played in seven games. In Roland Garros 2020 she won No.19 seed Alison Riskie in the first round with 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-1 but lost in the second round which happened to be her final match to compatriot Laura Siegemund 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.

The remarkable titles in her career are the 2011 Stuttgart crown, the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai and Moscow 2017.
