OSIMHEN’s FIRST SERIE A GOAL, DELIGHTS GENNARO GATTUSO

Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has opened his goal scoring account in the Italian Serie A with his maiden goal against Atalanta, in their 4-1 victory on Saturday.

The 21– year old who celebrated the goal in a spectacular style by displaying the #EndSARS protests over police brutality and demand for better management of the nation’s resources in Nigeria, scored the goal beating Marco Sportiello after controlled ball from goalkeeper David Ospina’s long ball.

The record transfer for French Ligue 1 club Lillie, who was voted Best African Player in France in 2019/2020 season has expressed delight on his maiden goal for the top Italian club, Napoli.

“I’m happy but what matters is the team, we have proved to be compact” The former Nigeria U-17 FIFA World Tournament, Golden Boot winner in 2015, told Corriere del Mezzogiorno after the match at Stadio San Paolo.

Meanwhile, his coach at the Serie A club, Napoli, Gennaro Gattuso has expressed happiness to the management of Napoli for listening to his demand for Osimhen.

“Victor was my wish and I thank the President for having satisfied me. It wasn’t easy but we have bought a player who is very important to us.”  He said in a post-match interview.

“I’m happy for Chuky’s brace, but Osimhen’s goal makes me happy because he hadn’t scored so far and he deserve it for the hard work done for the team”

Osimhen who had scored 18 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions and also won Lille’s player of the season in his one year at the club before his record transfer to Napoli, missed the international friendly matches for Nigeria against Algeria and Tunisia in Austria during the club break.

The young Nigeria forward is expected to continue his impressive performances when his side battle AZ Alkmaar in Europa League game, Thursday.
