ANDREY RUBLEV LIFT 4TH ATP TOUR CROWN AT ST.PETERSBUG OPEN

Russian Andrey Rublev defeated Boma Coric 7-6 (5), 6-4 to win the St, Petersbug Open, his fourth ATP Tour Trophy of the year.

The 22 year-old who has now leveled Novak Djokovic four ATP Tour trophy in 2020 came back from 5-2 down to win the first set tiebreak with five points streak after the set went with serve.

Rublev World No.10 broke Coric’s serve at 2-2 before holding on to his next three service games to win at home soil. With the win he has extended his winning streak to 10 matches at home.

“I feel happy. This one is really special for me” Rublev said

He added “I think this one is the most special for me, for the moment, and will always be special.”

He is now the fifth and joins top Russian tennis stars to have won the St.Petersburg crown, the likes of Yevgeny Kafelnikov (1995), Marat Safin (2000-2001), Mikhail Youzhny (2004) and Daniil Medvedev (2019).

With his fourth ATP HeadtoHead win against Coric, it has increased his chances of qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time.

“I know I have a really good chance to qualify, but still it is not 100 percent yet”. Rublev said. “This year, I didn’t expect that I would have a chance, so in the end nothing is going to change for me. Even if I don’t make it, the season was really good for me anyway.If I make it, it is really good news. [it is] one chance to compete against the best players, to do my best.” According to ATP, Rublev said.

Meanwhile Croatian Coric was attempting his first ATP Tour trophy since Noventi Open in Haile in 2018, but he succumbed to the superior power of Rublev to finish runner up his second final after losing to Medvedev in 2019.
