NOVAK DJOKOVIC TAKES ITALIAN OPEN FINAL TICKET TO MEET ARGENTINE SCHWARTZMAN
ITALIAN OPEN: World No 1 Novak Djokovic booked his place in the final of the Italian Open with victory over Norwegian Crasper Ruud 7-5 6-3.
Djokovic who has won the clay court tournament four times was watched by spectators with about 1,000 allowed to see the actions at the stands.
The Serbian who was disqualified at the US Open worked hard to erase the setback as he was brilliant to watch with good backhand shots delivering to his opponent that continued to struggle to cope with the pace of the game. He wrapped up the match with the 6-3.
Djokovic shall meet Canadian Argentine Schwartzman who knocked out Rafael Nadal, in the quarter-final.
He said “I don’t take anything for granted, even after 15 years on the tour, I still enjoy it,”
Djokovic added “I still have a hunger for the titles and putting myself in a position to fight for the title is exactly where I want to be.”
Meanwhile 28 year-old Canadian, Schwartzman beat Denis Shapovalov 6-4 5-7 7-6 (7-4) and he is itching to win the tournament to stop Djokovic quest for 36th Masters title.
