ITALIAN OPEN: RAFAEL NADAL OUTCLASS FELLOW SPANIARD PABLO CARRENO BUSTA

Rafael Nadal return to the clay at the Italian Open in Rome having skipped the Western & Southern Open and the US Open in New York due to Covid-19 concerns. Sensational, Nadal dominated the game against fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta to win 6-1, 6-1.

The clay court game specialist and nine times Champion Nadal showed flashes of good tennis but obviously little signs of rust having not played tennis for about 200 days in the match against Pablo.

Nadal who played dominating the first set with quick serves and shots spreading the court broke the lead in the fourth game, 3-1. He continued with his power play to put his fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno struggling to cope with the pace of his shots on clay

The last year French Open Champion, Nadal, maintained ego of dominance in the second set, playing beautiful tennis and gradually gaining intensity by outclassing Pablo. The World No. 2 wrapped up the match with 20 winners in just 73 minutes.

The 34 year-old clay specialist said, “It’s good to be back on the tour but obviously the feeling is not the best playing without crowds, Nadal added “At least there’s one positive thing, the sport is back.”

Nadal who stayed out of the US Open due to fear of Covid-19, said of his fellow Spaniard,

“I played a good match, maybe he was a little bit tired from New York (where) he played an amazing tournament,” He also said. “It’s perfect start for me, I played solid, some good shots with forehand and backhand.”

He will continue his quest to improve on his singles 85th title with desire to win the next match at the Italian Open. Nadal is considered as one of the best clay court tennis player having lots of clay titles in his career.
